The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released its 2023-2024 annual reports, highlighting the success of the state’s gaming industry and its positive impact on local communities. The reports also focus on the PGCB’s efforts to promote diversity and responsible gaming within the industry.

$2.54 Billion in Gaming Taxes Fuels Local Development

According to the report, the gaming industry generated $5.89 billion in total revenue for the fiscal year, resulting in $2.54 billion in tax revenue. These funds have been crucial in supporting local initiatives such as reducing school property taxes, launching economic development projects, and aiding Pennsylvania’s agricultural sector.

The gaming industry in Pennsylvania has grown significantly, now encompassing 17 land-based casinos, 18 retail sports betting locations, 12 online sports betting platforms, and 22 online casino gaming websites. Additionally, 74 truck stop video gaming terminals and 9 online fantasy sports contest platforms contributed to the industry’s success. By the end of the fiscal year, the sector employed 15,857 individuals, with nearly 90% of them being Pennsylvania residents.

Focus on Responsible Gaming

Despite the impressive revenue figures, the PGCB remains committed to promoting responsible gaming practices. Chairperson Denise J. Smyler emphasized the board’s dedication to ensuring fairness in gaming and providing resources for those struggling with gambling addiction. The PGCB continues to prioritize the protection of citizens as the industry expands.

Diversity in the Pennsylvania Gaming Workforce

The PGCB also released its 17th Annual Diversity Report, which highlights the efforts of Pennsylvania’s casinos to foster an inclusive workforce. Racial minorities make up 41.4% of the gaming workforce, while women account for 41.6%. Director of Diversity Mozelle E. Daniels praised the industry for its innovative approaches to attract and retain talent, especially in a competitive job market, through flexible workplaces and fresh ideas.

Moreover, Pennsylvania casinos have demonstrated their commitment to local communities by spending over half of their procurement budgets with state-based businesses. They have also contributed millions of dollars to charitable causes and community projects over the years.

Balancing Growth and Citizen Protection

As Pennsylvania’s gaming industry continues to expand, the PGCB remains focused on maintaining a balance between industry growth and citizen protection through stringent regulations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
