As nurses quit and walk off the job due to enormous PPE shortages, GrubHub drivers are still making deliveries. The difference is, hospitals cannot get PPE whereas GrubHub drivers can get as many masks and gloves as they need.
Reportedly, Chicago-based GrubHub has partnered with several large PPE distributors and holds a large stockpile of personal protective equipment for its drivers.
The independent contractors of GrubHub all received an email last evening telling drivers they should pre-order large amounts of PPE for them to continue delivering food safely.
Personal protective equipment being issued by GrubHub includes hand sanitizer, disposable gloves, and a large amount of disposable masks.
“To pre-order your free equipment, please complete and submit this form. You will receive an order confirmation email after placing your pre-order and then a shipping confirmation email with tracking information approximately two weeks afterwards when your kit has been shipped. Shipping is also free of charge and items are expected to start shipping the week of April 13th in the order that we receive pre-orders.”
GrubHub has been at the scrutiny of healthcare workers nationwide following the release of this email. Many are asking the giant corporation why they couldn’t donate these items to hospitals.
