SLIPPERY ROCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPMG) – A permit filed by the Allegheny Mineral Corp. has been approved, which will allow the mine to begin operations near the McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County.
601.5 acres have been approved to be mined for limestone and incidental coal, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The DEP is also the same agency to approved the permit for Allegheny Mineral Corp.
The mine would be close to the Hell’s Hollow region of the park, which has caused a great disturbance in how people view the park.
Numerous park patrons attended the internal meeting, and voiced their concerns about how the mine would disturb patrons and wildlife.
