PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Former Temple University football star Zaire Williams, 25, was fatally shot in Philadelphia on Monday. Williams was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 4:38 a.m..
The gunman has not been identified, and no arrests have been made.In 2013 and 2014, Williams played for the Division I Temple University Owls. His major was media studies and production. Williams was also an honors student in his sophomore year.
Prior to Temple, he was ranked 16th best football player in the state of New Jersey where he attended Timber Creek High School. He eventually transferred to the University of Maine football team after suffering a back injury at Temple.
Although he was recruited by several universities he chose to sign with Temple because he liked the coach’s “vibe,” he is quoted to have said that “I thought that Temple offered me a great opportunity to get a great education. When I’m finished playing football, my degree will carry weight wherever I go.”
