CHICAGO (KNNP) – Visitors were in for a frightening turn of events as they city-gazed over top of a glass floor, over 100 floors above the city of Chicago. Skydeck Chicago, a tourist attraction manages the location.
According to official reports, “The Ledge” is a glass floor where people can gather a panoramic view of Chicago. But visitors were suddenly startled as the protective top layer of the glass spider-webbed full of cracks.
The glass floor is made of 3 layers, each consisting of 0.5″ glass pieces. Once combined, the entire floor is laminated to ensure a seamless smooth feel. That smooth feel suddenly turned into bumpy raised edges as several people looked down and saw the floor start to give way.
In 2014, the attraction was closed for a similar incident, after an out-of-state family noticed small cracks beginning to develop.
The management division has replaced the protective coating, and the attraction is open for business again.
