MOON TWP, Pa. – An Allegheny County township is left in the cold following a large gas leak. According to reports online, a gas meter located on Western Avenue within Moon Township was making noises. When crews arrived on the scene, they noticed a leak had been developed.
On Saturday, crews evacuated nearby homes for safety precautions. As of yesterday, nearly 1,000 homes have been without heat following the discovery of the leak.
Crews were able to restore service to nearly 400 of those homes so far, according to reports.
The gas line, which is owned by Peoples Natural Gas, has more than 50 crews actively trying to restore service. Crews will have to go house by house to restore service, which could be delayed due to weather.
